Dental Care For Your Baby

Welcome to parenthood! As you bask in the joy of your baby’s arrival, it’s also time to think about their dental health. Here’s your guide to kickstarting a lifetime of healthy smiles for your little one.

Caring for Gums

Even before those pearly whites show up, your baby’s gums need some love. After feeding, gently wipe their gums with a clean, damp cloth or gauze to remove any food bits and start good oral care habits.

Baby’s First Tooth

Once that first tooth pops up, it’s brush time! Choose a soft-bristled baby toothbrush—either a long-handled one or a finger-puppet brush. Just wet the brush and gently clean the tooth.

Brushing with Toothpaste

As more teeth arrive, add a tiny dab of fluoridated toothpaste (about the size of a grain of rice). Teach your baby to spit out the toothpaste after brushing, never swallow.

Avoiding Cavities

Steer clear of sugary drinks and never let your baby fall asleep with a bottle. Sweet liquids can lead to early tooth decay, so keep those teeth clean!

First Dental Visit

Around your baby’s first birthday, schedule their first dental checkup. Early visits help catch any issues and set the stage for good oral health habits.

Setting a Good Example

Your little one learns by watching you, so make brushing and flossing a family affair. Offer a toddler-sized toothbrush and make brushing fun with flavored toothpaste or songs.

By starting these habits early, you’re laying the foundation for a lifetime of healthy, cavity-free teeth for your child!
